Lagos - Armed men suspected to be members of the deadly Boko Haram group have killed 32 people and abducted 185 others in Gumsuri village of northeast Nigeria's Borno State.

Among those abducted were married women, girls and children.

The village head and leader of the youth vigilante, also known as civilian Joint Task Force (JTF), were also killed by the attackers who invaded the village on Sunday.

Several civilian JTF were injured while attempting to repel the invasion.

The insurgents fired several shots and threw explosives into people's houses which make the people to run out.

They then gathered the people, including women, children and teenagers into two of the hilux vehicles they came with before they escaped with them before day break.

The attack occurred last weekend but was not known because of the remoteness of the area and poor telecommunication.

Although no one has claimed it yet, the attack bore the hallmarks of Boko Haram, which in a similar assault abducted more than 200 women in April from a secondary school in Chibok, very near this latest attack on the Cameroon border. - SAnews.gov.za-Xinhua
