New dawn for Lesotho

Tuesday, March 17, 2015

Pretoria – President Jacob Zuma has congratulated the people of the Kingdom of Lesotho for the exemplary manner in which they worked together in the past few months to find peace, stability and security.

President Zuma commended Basotho for soldiering on through the political and security difficulties that confronted their country to enable them to get through the elections peacefully.

Speaking in Lesotho on Tuesday at the inauguration of Prime Minister-elect Pakalitha Mosisili, President Zuma said the ordinary people of Lesotho played their part in seeing the country through a difficult chapter.

“They did not lose hope because they fully understand that hope is a campus to lead them to prosperity and development.”

Today’s inauguration comes after Lesotho held National Assembly Elections on 28 February, where Mosisili emerged as the leader of the winning coalition.

The elections were declared credible, free and fair by various election observer missions and were facilitated by the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

President Zuma said SADC will continue to help Lesotho in its quest for sustainable peace, stability and security.

“We need to continue to work together to uplift and improve the lives of our people through the creation of conducive conditions for a progressive developmental agenda, a developmental agenda that seeks to create jobs,” President Zuma said.

President Zuma used the occasion to thank SADC Facilitator Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa and the entire SADC Observer Mission for a job well done during the elections. - SAnews.gov.za
