Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma and Transport Minister Ben Martins have conveyed condolences to the family of Bafana Bafana assistant coach Thomas Madigage.

Madigage was killed in a car crash near Burgersfort in Limpopo. News of his death has spurred a wave of tributes from many sectors across the country.

"Madigage had just helped the team and national coach Gordon Igesund trounce the Harambe Stars of Kenya on their home turf in Nairobi this week. He was one of the youngest and most promising coaches in the country, having distinguished himself as a player at home for Jomo Cosmos, Supersport United and Bafana Bafana as well as a successful stint in Switzerland.

"In the words of his peers, he was the epitome of composure, respect and yet such agility. On the field, we remember his speed and agility as well as the ability to shoot and score from a very long distance.

"On behalf of government and the entire South African population, we convey our most heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and relatives, the Bafana coach and the whole squad as well as the entire soccer fraternity. Your loss is our loss as a nation. May his soul rest in peace," said Zuma.

Transport Minister Martins echoed Zuma's sentiments.

"On behalf of the transport family, we wish to convey our condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Madigage ... Our condolences also go to the entire soccer fraternity in the country and internationally. South Africa has lost a soccer legend in Thomas Madigage. May his soul rest in peace", said Martins. - SAnews.gov.za
