Dark weekend for South Africans

Friday, December 5, 2014

Pretoria – South Africans will have to endure another weekend of load shedding following yesterday’s power cuts, says Eskom.

“The electricity system will remain constrained and the risk of load shedding remains high,” said Eskom as it released its system status bulletin on Thursday afternoon.

Yesterday the power parastatal implemented stage 2 load shedding that ended at 10pm.

“The electricity system will remain constrained and the risk of load shedding remains high. Eskom has also taken a decision to load shed over the weekend in order to build up reserves for the week ahead. The capacity available to meet demand for electricity will be reduced as a result,” said the power parastatal.

Consumers can help alleviate pressure from the system by reducing their electricity usage as much as they can.

Eskom’s load shedding schedules are available for Eskom direct customers on its website (http://loadshedding.eskom.co.za/).

Customers are encouraged to contact 0860 037 566 for additional information and if they experience any problems regarding the schedules.

Eskom will provide regular updates on the status of the power system through all the media platforms. - SAnews.gov.za
