Eskom to implement load shedding throughout the day

Friday, May 22, 2015

Pretoria - Eskom has announced that it will implement planned power outages from 8am until 10pm on Friday.

“Eskom regrets to announce that Stage 1 load shedding will be implemented from 06:00 until 22:00 today,” the power utility said.

It attributed the power cuts to a shortage of generating capacity as several units are currently out of service due to maintenance.

“It is important to note that Eskom implements load shedding as a necessary measure to protect the power system and to ensure that maintenance is carried out in order to guarantee that our supply of electricity can be maintained in the long term.”

The power utility asked all customers to use electricity sparingly and to urgently switch off geysers, air conditioners, pool pumps and all non-essential appliances throughout the day. – SAnews.gov.za
