Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has appointed retired Judge Khayelihle Kenneth Mthiyane as Chairperson of the Commission of Inquiry into the remuneration and conditions of service in the public service and public entities.

The Presidency said in a statement on Tuesday the inquiry is for public service and public entities listed in Schedule 3A and 3C of the Public Finance Management Act, with the remuneration of educators receiving priority.

The President appointed the commission in August 2013 and had first announced it in the State of the Nation Address in February 2013.

“The commission is also mandated to investigate matters relating to organisational development, job evaluating and grading, recruitment, appointment and promotion, human resource planning and performance management systems, policies and practices in the public service.

“Judge Mthiyane will fill the vacancy that arose when former Chief Justice Sandile Ngcobo requested to be relieved from duty as Chairperson of the Commission,” said the Presidency.
