Pretoria - Communications Minister Faith Muthambi has wished the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), Frans Matlala, all the best in his new responsibilities.

Matlala was announced as the new CEO of the public broadcaster on Wednesday.

“We wish Mr Frans Matlala all the best as he undertakes the important task of ensuring that our public broadcaster delivers on its mandate of fulfilling the public's right to know, educate, and entertain as well as nation building.

“We are looking forward to working with him, the SABC Board and the entire leadership of the SABC in realising their obligation to serve the whole population,” said the Minister.

She was confident that Matlala would add value to the governance of the SABC as well as the Audio Visual Content Development Strategy, which proposes the establishment of content generation hubs in rural provinces.

Matlala, who holds a graduate diploma in engineering, a B.Sc in chemistry and M.Sc degree, has worked in senior positions at South African Breweries, Africa Life SA, First National Bank and Standard Bank.

At the SABC, he served as a consultant to the public broadcaster for project management and strategic advisory services. - SAnews.gov.za
