Pretoria - South Africa’s participation in the 40th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival will further strengthen the relationship with the Canadian film sector, says Trade and Industry Deputy Minister Mzwandile Masina.

Deputy Minister Masina will be leading a business delegation comprising 20 filmmakers to the popular festival that takes place in Toronto next month.

The Deputy Minister will use his visit to the film festival to meet with some of the most influential players in the global film industry in order to promote the South Africa’s attractiveness as a film destination of international standard.

South Africa has already signed an audio-visual co-production agreement with Canada.

The agreement, according to dti, serves as a driver from which Canada and South Africa can contribute to the expansion of the film, television, video production and distribution industries of both countries.

It also serves to enhance the development of cultural and economic exchanges between SA and Canada.

However, despite the agreement Deputy Minister Masina said the dti has established good relations with the Canadian filmmakers as part of its efforts to stimulate the growth of the South African film industry by marketing the country as an attractive location for international movies wooing investors to the sector. - SAnews.gov.za
