Pretoria - The City of Cape Town promises to host a dazzling closing ceremony of the 2014 Orange African Nations Championship (CHAN) at Cape Town Stadium, on Saturday.
The city’s mayoral committee member responsible for tourism, events and marketing, Grant Pascoe, said the closing ceremony will start at 3pm.
“Fans are in for a treat with mass formations and routines devised by AFCON 2013 ceremonies choreographer Somizi Mhlongo and performances from acclaimed local artists, including kwaito trio Mafikizolo, SAMA-winning singer Professor, house music group Uhuru, new-age performance poet and singer Busiswa, DJ Zinhle, GoodHope FM’s DJ Reddy D and singer-songwriter Chad Saaiman.
“We have pulled out all the stops to ensure that the culmination of the championship is a fitting tribute to the final showdown. The theme Celebrating Africa’s Home Champions will celebrate the diversity and beauty of Africa, as Cape Town bids farewell to the 16 participating nations,” said Pascoe.
He said CHAN has been a spectacular and successful tournament, which will leave a legacy for the future of football.
