Pretoria - Anoj Singh has been appointed as Transnet's chief financial officer (CFO).
Singh has been acting CFO of the state-owned transport and logistics company since 2009.
"It is an honour and a privilege for Transnet to be able to choose among its own a professional of Mr Singh's calibre, who not only boasts an impeccable understanding of the company's operations, but demonstrates a deep understanding and commitment to the role that Transnet plays in South Africa's developmental and policy goals," said Transnet on Monday.
The appointment of Singh, who will also be an executive director of the company together with group chief executive Brian Molefe, will be effective as of 1 July.
Singh, a chartered accountant, joined Transnet in 2003. He holds a Bachelor of Accountancy degree and a Post Graduate Diploma in Accounting from the University of Durban Westville - now University of KwaZulu-Natal.
The appointment followed stringent governance processes from both Transnet and the shareholder, said Transnet.
In addition to attending various committees of the board, he will lead all aspects of the company's financial strategy, including adherence to the highest standards of governance and internal controls, manage all financial risks and oversee the company's funding and capital investment programmes.
Before joining Transnet, he worked for food retail group Spar and auditing firm Deloitte & Touche.
