Johannesburg - Local bars, restaurants and entertainment places are expected to stay open until the early hours of this morning to accommodate the large number of soccer fans who will be celebrating the opening of the FIFA Confederations Cup.

Many parties have been planned for after the match, which kicked off only a short while ago.

Manager of Sakhumzi Restaurant in Vilakazi Street in Soweto, Linda Msiya, told BuaNews that people have been trickling in all day and that by 3pm the venue was packed to capacity.

He said the restaurant is expected to be open later than usual as there were two Confederations Cup matches being played on Sunday and people would be hanging around celebrating their teams' win.

Ms Msiya said in preparing for extra number of patrons during the tournament, they had set up a big stage and revamped the entertainment area to accommodate 150 people.

"We have a big screen, which we used whenever there are big games like league cups and are going to use it during the Confederations Cup for our customers to relax whilst watching the games.

"We've also decided to improve our sound system. We have hired a DJ to entertain our customers, whilst waiting for the game to start and after the game when they will start celebrating," said Mr Msiya.

Many South Africans will also be watching the game in true South African style - at home with friends around a braai.

Nine public viewing areas have also been set up around Johannesburg to broadcast the match live.

The first match between Bafana Bafana and Iraq is currently taking place and the second match between and the second match between New Zealand and Spain will start at 8.30pm at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg.
