Pretoria - The Department of Transport has dispatched a team of investigators to look into the cause of several accidents at the weekend which left more than 20 people dead.
The accident investigation and reconstruction specialists will assist in piecing together the accidents.
Nine people were killed and one critically injured when two cars collided in a head-on collision in Tafelkop in Limpopo on Sunday morning. The five occupants of one of the vehicles were burnt to death when it burst into flames after the collision.
On Saturday, five people died when three vehicles collided on Baden Powell Drive on the R102 Bridge in Cape Town, while more than five people were reported dead in separate road crashes on both Saturday and Sunday in KwaZulu-Natal.
Various other accidents left several more injured.
Transport Minister, Sibusiso Ndebele has expressed condolences to the families and relatives of those killed in the road crashes and wish those who were injured a speedy recovery.
"We will ensure that those who are found guilty of this unnecessary loss of lives face the consequences of their actions," he said on Monday.
