Pretoria - More than one million domestic workers will have their salaries adjusted with effect from 1 December.
This is in line with the Sectoral determination which decrees that they be given annual increases at the beginning of December.
This year, the minimum wages for domestic workers who work 27 ordinary hours per week or less in Area A is R9.12 per hour, R246.30 per week and R1067.15 per month and for those in Area B it will be R7.60 per hour, R205.52 per week and R890.52 per month.
"Those who work more than 27 ordinary hours per week the minimum wage will be R7.72 per hour, R347.79 per week and R1506.35 per month or R6.44 per hour, R290.00 per week and R1256.14 per month for Area B," said Department of Labour spokesperson Page Boikanyo.
"For those domestic employers who choose to ignore this determination, they must know that the department will be watching them along with their employees who we encourage to report noncompliance at the nearest Labour Centre and there will be no mercy," said department's Chief Inspector Zakes Mogwatlhe.
"They have a choice to comply willfully or be forced to do so. As usual there will be blitz inspections by our dedicated inspectors to ensure compliance," he said.
Area A is all urban areas with Municipalities like Bergrevier, City of Tshwane, Nelson Mandela, Lesedi, Mosselbaai, Emfuleni, Mogale, among others, whereas Area B is for all those municipalities not listed in Area A.
