Mdantsane - Jubilant Bafana Bafana supporters have converged at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium to rally behind the national team and witness the official opening of the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup.

Excitement at the stadium is high as fans, blowing on their vuvuzelas and singing jubilantly, anxiously wait for the kick off.

Proceedings will be broadcast live on a big screen which has been set up by the Buffalo City Municipality.

"I can't wait to witness this historic event because it's a once in a lifetime event," said Luntu Ncanywa, who was wearing a Bafana Bafana jersey.

Another fan, Lonwabo Myali said although he was an avid church-goer, he had decided not to go attend Sunday's service as he wanted to get to the stadium early and support Bafana Bafana.

He was optimistic that the national soccer team could win the tournament if they get the support they needed from the entire nation. "Bafana won the African Cup of Nations in 1996 - history might repeat itself," Mr Myali added.

Security at the stadium has been beefed up and security officers are patrolling to eansure peace and order is maintained.

Police told BuaNews that the crowd did not misbehave as they were no criminal activities reported today.

Eastern Cape Emergency Medical Services is also on standby to take care of people who might need medical attention.

Buffalo City municipality spokesperson Samkelo Ngwenya said all the matches throughout the tournament would be broadcast.

He appealed to the locals to make use of the big screens.
