Pretoria - The Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality has introduced a fourth park and ride facility to ensure the thousands of soccer fans attending the Italy/Brazil match get to Loftus Versfeld Stadium on time.
"A fourth parking area has been introduced in order to ensure a smooth operation for the fans," said Console Tleane, spokesperson for the municipality's Community Safety Department.
He said the sold out match was expected to attract 49 000 fans from Pretoria itself and other parts of the province and the country at large.
The LC de Villiers Sports Grounds at the east campus of the University of Pretoria caters for around 3000 cars and 300 busses.
Fans from the eastern and North Eastern parts of the city (Mamelodi, Silverton, Waltloo, Eersterus, Hammanskraal) are encouraged to use this facility.
The Pretoria Sports Union sports ground can take 1000 cars. Fans from the around the city centre and the surburbs are encouraged to use this facility.
The Pretoria Technical High School grounds will be a park-and-walk. It accommodates 700 cars and will also be suitable for fans staying from around the city centre.
The Fountains Resort on the southern side of the city centre can accommodate around 3000 cars.
Fans from Atteridgeville, Soshanguve, Mabopane, Ga-Rankuwa, Johannesburg, Midrand, Centurion, Ekurhuleni, and generally from the south of Gauteng, and North West province are encouraged to use this facility.
