Pretoria - Fikile Mbalula, former African National Congress (ANC) Youth League President, has been announced as the Deputy Minister of Police.
The new department, which will be headed by Minister Nathi Mthethwa, replaces the Department of Safety and Security, which he had also led.
Currently, the President of the International Union of Socialist Youth, Mr Mbalula was the ANC Youth League President from 2004 to 2008.
He is also a key member of the ruling party's National Working Committee and National Executive Committee.
During the late 1980's, Mr Mbalula played an active role in the Congress of South African Students and the South African Youth Congress.
He participated in various international gatherings both in South Africa and abroad on issues of multi-lateralism and international justice, peace and stability.
