Govt's PoA available on the web

Pretoria - South Africans will now be able to keep a close eye on government's progress in its Programme of Action (PoA) by tracking it on a website.

Government spokesman Themba Maseko said Cabinet had approved the reactivation of the PoA on the government website following an ordinary Cabinet meeting on Tuesday.

The move would serve as a means of reporting progress to the public as well as providing a summary of strategic focus areas of government, Maseko explained.

Government is currently in the process of finalising its PoA during a two-day Cabinet Lekgotla, which got underway on Tuesday.

Speaking at the start of the lekgotla, Maseko said government has reviewed the PoA since the elections and had identified key priorities that were outlined in the State of the Nation Address.

Maseko explained that these priorities had been translated into 12 priority outcomes which were areas that government would be focusing its attention on.

During the lekgotla the spotlight would fall specifically on priorities in education, health, safety and security, job creation, the environment, infrastructure development and the economic growth path for the country.

Specific targets are expected to be set for the delivery of the programme. These targets will form the basis for delivery agreements that expected to be signed by President Jacob Zuma and individual ministers who will then become responsible for the actual delivery.
