Pretoria - South Africans, staff at the Presidency and political parties have wished President Jacob Zuma a happy birthday.
The President turns 70 on Thursday.
The High Office said in a statement: "We appreciate all the time you have spent and continue to spend in furtherance of the goal of a united, democratic and prosperous South Africa. May you have many more."
Ordinary citizens used social networking sites to wish the President a memorable day.
One Facebook user wrote: "May you have many more years to come. I deeply acknowledge all the sacrifice and contribution you had made for our country...may God give you more wisdom."
Zuma spent his day at the ANC's Luthuli House where he celebrated with party heavy weights.
In a statement, the Office of the ANC Chief Whip said: "We wish him well and have no doubt that he will continue to inspire and offer his leadership for the continued struggle for a better life for all our people."
