Pretoria - Lieutenant General Arno Lamoer has been announced as the new top cop of the Western Cape.
Lamoer is the new provincial commissioner effective immediately. He takes over the position from Lieutenant General Mzwandile Petros who became Gauteng's provincial commissioner in September.
"As a well a trained and experienced officer, coupled with his immeasurable knowledge of the Western Cape, General Lamoer is well suited to lead the police in that province", said National Police Commissioner Bheki Cele, announcing the appointment.
Lamoer joined SAPS 30 years ago, rising through the ranks to become the station commander of various police stations, area commissioner and, more recently, divisional commander.
