Pretoria - The community of Riemvasmaak has at last laid claim to their ancestral land.

A total of 172 households from the Riemvasmaak community will receive title deeds in respect of 46595 hectares of commercial agricultural land comprising several properties in the area.

The return of the land to the Riemvasmaak community has been planned to coincide with the 96th anniversary of the infamous Natives Land Act of 19 June 1913, promulgated by the apartheid government, resulting in the forceful removals of a large number of black people in South Africa.

A total amount of R70 million has been approved by the state as part of this second phase of the settlement of the Riemvasmaak community claim.
