Suspension on Nersa CEO lifted

Thursday, November 25, 2010

Pretoria - The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) has withdrawn the suspension of one of its Chief Executive Officers, Smunda Mokoena.

According to Nersa spokesperson, Charles Hlebela, the decision to withdraw the suspension was taken at a special committee meeting on Tuesday. However, the allegations leveled against Mokoena will be investigated by the office of the Minister of Energy.

The regulator announced last week that Mokoena had been placed on a leave of absence from last Monday following allegations of gross transgression of the regulator's code of conduct.

The suspension has been lifted with immediate effect.
