Pretoria - A task team, appointed by the Minister of Higher Education and Training Dr Blade Nzimande, will investigate the cause of recent strike action at the Durban University of Technology.
The university was forced to close its doors on March 24 because of violent student protests.
The department said in a statement on Tuesday that the team, headed by Dr Vincent Maphai, will make suggestions about short, medium and long-term measures to ensure that the culture of teaching and learning is restored at the institution.
The task team will commence its work on April 7 and will provide Nzimande with a full report within 20 days.
"The breakdown in governance and sound institutional management is untenable and deters from a focus on teaching and learning," the statement said.
Nzimande has urged all stakeholders, management, students and staff at the institution to co-operate with the investigation.
