Pretoria - Preparations are at an advanced stage for the much anticipated Presidential inauguration with a massive dry-run to be conducted on major Pretoria streets on Saturday.
"The dry-run and street closures will take place on Saturday, 18 April 2009 from 4:30am until 1pm," the Tshwane Community Safety Department said.
Earlier today, Government Spokesperson Themba Maseko announced that the inauguration was set to take place on Saturday, 9 May at the Union Buildings.
He said preparations for the inauguration were at an advanced stage.
Mr Maseko said Heads of State and Government had already been invited to join the nation in witnessing and celebrating the inauguration of the fourth democratically elected President of the Republic.
Members of the public can be part of the ceremony at the Union Building lawns, which will be held under the theme 'Together, celebrating a vibrant democracy and building a better life for all".
The dry-run is necessary in order for the Community Safety Department to effectively conduct the traffic flow on the day of the inauguration.
The department has urged motorists to use alternative routes on Saturday and make the necessary contingency plans.
Some of the streets that will be affected include Government / Zeiderberg street, Government / Blackwood, Government / Pine and Church / Athlone street.
Metro Police officers will be manning the affected intersections and will be able to guide the motorists accordingly.
