Pretoria - The remuneration to over 44 000 members of the South African Police Services (SAPS) who were deployed to perform duties during the World Cup is nearing completion.
The SAPS started running payments to its members in batches approximately two weeks ago and anticipate that the last run will be finalised by the end of next week.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Sally de Beer said that every member deployed booked on and off duty repetitively over a six to seven week period, over a million transactions had to be captured on the SAPS systems and then audited.
"The auditing process was important to provide reasonable assurance that all expenditures incurred in this regard were appropriate. This is an important control aspect regarding significant values," she said.
The SAPS management was immensely proud of its members who were true ambassadors of their country during the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
"We therefore made every endeavour to ensure that the payment of overtime allowances, meals, subsistence allowances, travel expenditures, shift and Sunday allowances were expedited," Brigadier de Beer said.
