Pretoria - Consumers will not be pleased by the announcement by the Energy Department on Wednesday that the petrol price is to increase by 28 cents a litre.
In Gauteng, a litre of 95 ULP will cost R12.22 after the increase comes into effect next Wednesday.
The price of 0.05% sulphur diesel will go up by 9.4 cents while that of 0.005% sulphur diesel will go up by 8.4 cents.
The wholesale price of illuminating paraffin is set to go up by 9 cents and a litre of illuminating paraffin (SMNRP) is set to increase by 12 cents.
There will also be 31 cents per kilogram increase in the maximum retail price for LPGAS.
The price increases will come into effect next Wednesday.
"During the period under review, the average international product prices of petrol increased, whilst diesel and illuminating paraffin decreased. The average Rand/US Dollar exchange rate weakened when compared to the previous period," said the department.
In April the petrol price rose by 71 cents a litre.
