Pretoria - The Department of Trade and Industry (dti) is hosting a series of workshops with stakeholders on the revised Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Codes of Good Practice.
The sessions are aimed at engaging all stakeholders on issues that they may need clarity on in order to enable them to give concrete feedback on the Codes, which were unveiled by Trade and Industry minister last week.
The Codes were gazetted for public comment on Friday and this signalled the start of a 60-day period during which stakeholders and the public will give inputs on the Codes, said the dti Director-General Lionel October.
"Despite this being a legislative requirement before the new Codes are finalised, the dti takes the views of stakeholders very seriously as the revised Codes will impact on how business is conducted in order to advance black economic empowerment. It is vital for the department to provide guidance and direction to key stakeholders on the changes and implications of the revised Codes as well as the B-BBEE Amendment Bill," he said.
The first workshop takes place at the Hatfield Manor in Pretoria on Tuesday. Government officials from national departments will attend the workshop in order to familiarise themselves with the proposed Codes.
This will be followed by workshops for verification agencies, State Owned Entities, Sector Charter Councils, provincial and local government officials, private sector chambers and foreign embassies over a period of two months. - SAnews.gov.za
