Phokeng - The North West Premier Maureen Modiselle has announced a slight decline in the province's matric pass rate.
The province achieved 67.5 percent, down 0.5 percent.
Modiselle said although the province had a marginal drop, it was clear that the matric results had stabilised in the province from 2007 with 67.2 in 2008 68.0 percent and 67.5 percent in 2009
"We have developed and implemented strategies to improve learner achievement and to promote teacher excellence in all our institutions of learning," the premier said during a briefing at the Phokeng Community Hall in Rustenburg.
She said the strategies had also targeted the areas of Mathematics and Science.
Thirty schools in the province achieved a 100 percent pass rate with the best performing district being Dr Kenneth Kaunda district with a pass rate of 72.82 percent. This was followed by Bojanala with 68.01 percent pass rate.
The premier also congratulated Marion Muhl from Rustenburg High School as the top candidate of the province.
She further encouraged the 2010 learners to work hard this year to achieve better results.
