Pretoria - The eThekwini Municipality's Community Participation and Action Support Unit will on Thursday launch the Grant-In-Aid Programme.
According to the municipality, the programme seeks to provide financial and material support to non-profit organizations, expecially in the prevailing social and economic inequalities in the community.
Head of Community Participation and Action Support at the municipality, Ntokozo Chonco, said a number of citizens were faced with numerous social challenges.
"The Grant-In-Aid programme does not only provide financial and material support to organisations, but it also capacitates and provides skills, knowledge and tools to undertake their work effectively and to ensure that they are inline with the industry standards and norms," Chonco said.
"Emphasis is placed on supporting organisations from poor communities focusing on the groups such as children, youth, women, elderly and people with special personal challenges," he added.
He said this type of assistance was limited to those organisations that had proven financial systems, policies and procedures in place to ensure that there was no breach of the municipal legislations and procedures.
