Pretoria - Deputy Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Sue van der Merwe is to host a reception in Pretoria today to mark United Nations (UN) Day.
The day commemorates the anniversary of the entry into force of the UN Charter on 24 October 1945 which has been celebrated as UN Day since 1948.
According to the department, the day will be used to make known the aims and achievements of the UN organisation. It is also an opportunity for nations to reaffirm their faith in the principles and the purpose of the UN Charter and celebrate the goals and achievements of the organisation.
The Deputy Minister is expected to make a key note address, followed by a response by the UN Resident Coordinator, Dr Agostinho Zacarias.
