Pretoria - The National Council of Provinces (NCOP) is expected to visit the provinces this week to assess the progress being made by municipalities in achieving clean audit outcomes by 2014.
Permanent delegates of the NCOP will undertake the visits to the provinces during Provincial Week, between 17 and 20 April, to carry out the assessments.
"The oversight visits will focus on what municipalities are doing to implement effective governance structures and systems to achieve clean audits," Parliament said in a statement on Monday.
Issues expected to come under the spotlight include municipalities with disclaimers, adverse financial reports, repeat disclaimers and adverse reports or qualified audits or repeat qualified audits.
Financial management and internal controls against irregular expenditure, under-spending by municipalities as well as irregular, fruitless, wasteful or unauthorised expenditure will also be examined.
The NCOP comprises 90 delegates, 54 of whom are permanent delegates (six from each of the nine provinces) and 36 special delegates (four from each of the nine provinces).
