Pretoria - The City of Johannesburg says it will not reverse its decision to reinstate Police Chief Chris Ngcobo.
Gabu Tugwana, spokesperson for the city said while Johannesburg Executive Mayor Amos Masondo was committed to engaging with the South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu), he would not do so on the return of the Chief of Police, Chris Ngcobo.
"This interaction should, however, not be on the issue of the return of the Chief of Police to work as this decision has been made by the Mayoral Committee," said
Samwu, which represents certain staff at the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD), has raised objections to the return of Ngcobo last week after being cleared of corruption charges in August.
He said Samwu should communicate with the Executive Mayor's office so that they can be given a date for a meeting, but reiterated that the meeting would "not have anything to do with discussions on the returning of the Chief of Police to work".
The outstanding issues such as the question of relationships within the JMPD core management team, managers and staff were being addressed on on-going basis with the assistance of Masondo and the City Manager Mavela Dlamini in order to harmonise the working environment at JMPD.
