Pretoria - The City of Ekurhuleni has welcomed investigation of mismanagement and maladministration at its council by the Special Investigation Unit (SIU).
On Wednesday, spokesperson Zweli Dlamini said the City welcomed the investigations as they were in line with the municipality's key strategic priorities, such as good governance.
Since March this year, the City has been working with the SIU preparing to request the recent proclamation by President Jacob Zuma to investigate concerns around procurement, as well as allegations of mismanagement and maladministration.
"The Municipality commits itself to fully co-operate with the investigation and render any assistance that may be needed by the SIU in the process," he said.
According to Dlamini, the City also has a Municipal Public Accounts Committee tasked with ensuring that due process is followed in the handling of public funds.
"It is through the work of this committee that some of the concerns came up and the council then decided to rope in the SIU.
"We have full confidence in the team that is dealing with this investigation and will respect the outcome thereof," he said.
The ongoing investigations began under the watchful eye of former Executive Mayor Ntombi Mekgwe and her successor, Clr Mondli Gungubele remains committed to ensure that the process is successfully concluded.
