Durban - Information and Communication Technology (ICT) can be used to make the public service's auditing system more secure against fraud, says Minister for Public Service and Administration, Richard Baloyi.
"ICTs allow for digitised collation and storage of documents and transactions as well as ease of auditing. These tools become very potent in the fight against corruption that the government of President Zuma has declared war against," said the minister.
He therefore urged all practitioners in the ICT sector to help government departments adopt these technologies which will enable audit ability of transactions.
"There is no doubt or debate that ICT's can help them as the government to meet the daily challenges of the public service," said the minister.
New ICT innovations and tools make institutions and markets more productive workforce, enhance skills and learning, improve governance at all levels and make it easier for the poor to access services and make their voices heard.
Baloyi was speaking on Monday at the GovTech 2009 conference in Durban.
