Pretoria - The Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality's Disaster Management Centre was placed on alert on Monday after heavy rains fell over Pretoria.
The metropolitan had received a weather alert from the Weather Services that a storm with heavy rain was predicted for Monday which could lead to road flooding and reduced visibility acting the city.
"The community safety department has already dispatched Metro Police to oversee traffic flow in busy intersections and to close certain roads if need arise," the metro said, adding that the Disaster Management Centre has also been placed on alert.
The Metro Police has also been deployed to monitor low water bridges and access routes.
"Motorists are requested to be extra cautious when driving and especially avoiding low water bridges. People who live close to water courses should also monitor their environment and be on alert for possible flooding."
South African Weather Service Forecaster Elsie Brouws told BuaNews that the persistent rain would be on and off most of the day on Monday.
"For Tuesday there is a 60 percent chance of rain in Gauteng."
