Rustenburg - FIFA President Sepp Blatter has given the Local Organising Committee (LOC) a pat on the back, saying the quality of pitches and organisation of the FIFA Confederations Cup "was so far so good".

"So far we are very happy with what we see," Mr Blatter told journalists ahead of the Bafana Bafana clash with New Zealand here last night.

"As the FIFA organising committee we can say work done so far by the LOC is satisfying," Mr Blatter said.

At its ordinary meeting in Cape Town on Wednesday, Cabinet commended the LOC for organising "a successful tournament."

"Cabinet is confident that the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup Tournament will demonstrate our readiness to host and make the 2010 FIFA World Cup tournament the most memorable world cup ever," Government spokesperson Themba Maseko said.

The tournament is in its fifth day with five matches having been played and no major incidents reported.

There has been heavy security with additional police officers deployed in all four venues of the tournament.

Mr Blatter said he was confident Africa and South Africa in particular will host the best ever Confederations Cup.

Bafana Bafana's 2-0 victory against New Zealand also gave the nation some hope and the national team will have to beat the strong Spanish team convincingly to have any chance of proceeding to the semi final.
