Tuesday, May 21, 2013

Pretoria - The Western Cape High Court granted an interim interdict today to halt the proposed N1/N2 Winelands toll highway project in the Western Cape.

South African National Roads Agency (Sanral) head of communications Vusi Mona said: “We respect the court’s decision and will evaluate its implications before deciding on the way forward on the vital issue of upgrading and maintaining the N1 and N2 national roads.

“What was never in dispute is that upgraded and well-maintained roads are essential for economic growth and social development in the Western Cape; this is in everyone’s interest. We will study the judgment and determine the way forward.”

Western Cape High Court Judge Ashley Binns-Ward ordered that interim relief be granted pending the same court's review of Sanral’s decision to implement the toll project. - SAnews.gov.za
