Pretoria – The late television and radio anchor, Vuyo Mbuli, will get a hero’s send-off, and will be laid to rest at the Heroes’ Acre at West Park Cemetery in Johannesburg.
Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane said on Friday morning that this was done to ensure that Mbuli, who died at a Bloemfontein hospital after he collapsed while watching a rugby game, is given a befitting send-off.
“It is our wish that a true patriot like Vuyo be laid to rest next to other exceptional South Africans such as the late Nkosi Johnson and 35 of the 42 victims of the Westdene Bus Disaster of 1985.
“He was an alternative role model, who contributed to nation-building and social cohesion. Vuyo was also a volunteer in many organisations that sought to uplift and mentor young men throughout Gauteng.
“The groundswell of support shown this week is indicative of the love and loss that Gauteng residents feel for this fallen hero of our province,” Mokonyane said.
Since Mbuli’s untimely death on Saturday, messages of condolences have been pouring in from many South Africans, the media industry, business and government leaders.
Mokonyane said the Gauteng Provincial Government would provide logistical support to Mbuli’s family and assist with traffic control, while some of the municipalities were expected to also provide transport for those wishing to pay their last respects to Mbuli. – SAnews.gov.za
