Pretoria - Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa is expected to address an international summit on transnational crime in Switzerland on Thursday.
Mthethwa will interact with his counterparts from across the globe at the 14th International Summit on Transnational Crime, Homeland and Global Security Forum, which kicks off in Geneva on Wednesday.
According to the Police Ministry, Mthethwa's address to the summit is expected to outline a global call to strengthen the efforts by different countries in combating transnational crimes.
The minister will also participate in a panel discussion with various police ministers on Thursday under the theme 'The Global Approach to Today's Security: the recent evolution of international terrorism'.
"The discussions will, amongst others, deliberate on the impact of the world financial and economic crisis on global security, terrorism and its new developments, as well as the promotion of international and regional standards of cooperation," the police ministry said.
Apart from the police ministers, other notable participants of the summit include the President of Benin and African Union chairman Boni Yayi, former Zambian President of Rupiah Bwezani Banda, and Mali's Prime Minister Cheick Modibo Diarra. - SAnews.gov.za
