Lebowakgomo - The national government administration team is making progress in improving the financial situation of the Limpopo Provincial Government, says Limpopo Premier Cassel Mathale.
Delivering the State of the Province Address in the provincial legislature on Thursday, Mathale said: "Very soon, people will see the good results jointly done by this provincial government and the national government administration team.
"The distance that we've travelled is quite commendable."
Towards the end of last year, Cabinet placed five of the province's departments under administration in terms of section 100 (1) (b) of the Constitution.
The five departments placed under national government administration are Roads and Transport, Health, Public Works, Education and Treasury.
Mathale thanked President Jacob Zuma, Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan and the administrators for their efforts, adding that the provincial government was working closely with the team to implement measures aimed at addressing the situation.
"We want to emphasise our commitment to any task that is aimed at assisting the province to address the challenge of the overdraft," he said.
Mathale said the provincial government was committed to building a transparent, responsive and responsible administration with the capacity to lead the province and improve the living standards of the people.
"According to the Auditor-General, our province is leading in terms of financial record keeping and we've developed a Provincial Clean Audit Strategy to assist all the departments and municipalities to meet the objective of the 2014 Clean Audit Campaign," he said.
With regard to corruption, Mathale said: "We urge you all to report any form of corruption in our provincial government without fear or favour. You must report everyone irrespective of their status in society to the police. You don't need my permission as your premier to report corrupt individuals."
