Ibadan - The government of Nigeria's southwest state Oyo on Tuesday imposed a 12-hour curfew due to the fuel subsidy protest with immediate effect.
A local government statement said the curfew, which takes effect from 7pm to 7am, was to ensure security for lives and property.
Some troublemakers under the sponsorship of certain politicians, said the statement, had been hiding under the ongoing protests to threaten the security of the state, especially at night.
The government had instructed security agencies to apprehend and prosecute anyone who contravened the curfew.
"While government appreciates the rights of the citizens to protest, the protection of lives and property is imperative," noted the statement.
