Limpopo ready for festive season

Polokwane - The Limpopo Tourism Agency is gearing to attract more visitors to the province this festive season.

Agency spokesman Ntlhekeng Kgatla said the agency would team up with various tourism role players to ensure that people choose Limpopo as their tourism destination these holidays.

"For the success of the campaign, we will partner with other role players such as car rental companies, airport lounges, airlines, accommodation establishments, tour operators and tourism information centres for packaging tourism offerings that will be sold as a promotion for the festive," said Kgatla on Wednesday.

Agency chief executive Rob Tooley said the campaign would reinforce Limpopo's growth in tourism following last year's FIFA World Cup.

The South African Tourism Quarter 2 Report showed that the province enjoyed a significant increase in tourism activities compared to the same period in 2010.

"South Africa as a whole saw a decline of 1.3% during the month of June 2011 as compared to that of 2010. The decline was anticipated as South Africa was hosting the FIFA World Cup during June and July 2010," said Tooley. "The report further states that Limpopo has shown a significant increase in tourism."

According to Tooley, Limpopo has an added competitive advantage because it is the only province in the country that has a wealth of culture and natural heritage.

"The major boost for us is our strategic location as we are a gateway to other parts of our continent."

The campaign would be driven electronically through the agency's website. The cover page would be redesigned to give an option of viewing tourism offerings before moving into the actual site.

"The agency's website will be linked with other social sites such as Facebook, Twitter and blogs and Trip Advisor to convey a specific content targeting holiday makers."

He said the agency's commercial division, Limpopo Wildlife Resorts, which is also responsible for hospitality services, has prepared exciting packages for all "the late comers" during this festive season.

"The agency manages 12 resorts spread across the Limpopo province."
