Cape Town – With just over an hour to go before President Jacob Zuma stands in the National Assembly to deliver his State of the Nation Address, the red carpet leading up to the building has been lit up with various expressions of style.
Former Minister of Public Works, Thoko Didiza, who was wearing a grey number with leopard print shawl, said she welcomed government’s focus on small, medium enterprises and the creation of a new ministry to focus on small business development.
Deputy Communications Minister, Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams, wore a white number with a sheer bodice and blue and gold detail. She accessorised with a gold detail clutch and belt. Her husband Thato Abrahams wore a blue suit with a detailed colour
“I chose this article because it’s got a young feel. I’m not only here as an MP but I’m representing young people as well. I also want to [dispel] the myth that politicians can’t do it in fashion.”
The Economic Freedom Fighter’s Floyd Shivambu stood out in the party’s trademark red overalls. His partner was also dressed in a flamboyant coloured dress in an African theme.

In a black and gold dress suit, Western Cape Premier Helen Zille said she had decided to wear a more muted outfit as it was the second State of the Nation Address in a year. She had bought the outfit at a vintage store.

Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba, who caused a stir wearing an SAA outfit at the February State of the Nation Address, wore a double-breasted grey suit with red rose and gold tie. His partner stunned in a glittering gold dress with detailed shoulders.
