Pretoria - The technical committee selection panel of the South African Football Association (Safa) have identified Bafana Bafana caretaker coach, Steve Komphela and Gordon Igesund as top candidates for the Bafana head coach job.
The panel finalised its interviewing process on Monday with Komphela, who was unable to attend the interviews with other four candidates last week as he was at the camp with the national team preparing for the international friendly match against Gabon, played on Friday, at Mbombela stadium.
Safa chief executive officer, Robin Petersen said: "At the end of the interview process, the scores for each candidate were finalised and the top candidates have now been identified. They are Gordon Igesund and Steve Komphela."
He said the two candidates had been invited by the committee to make a further presentation to Safa's National Executive Committee (NEC) which is constitutionally mandated to appoint the Bafana head coach.
"The presentations will take place on June 30, following which the NEC will receive the report and recommendation of the technical committee, and will then finalise the appointment of the coach from the two candidates.
"We are delighted that this process is reaching its conclusion. Both of these candidates have shown their credentials and either of them would make an excellent national team coach," he said.
Petersen also thanked the other candidates, Gavin Hunt, Ephraim "Shakes" Mashaba and former Bafana skipper Neil Tovey for their participation in the process.
