Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has extended his heartfelt condolences to Mavis Chabane, wife of the Minister of Public Service and Administration Collins Chabane, as well as the families of his two protectors.
Minister Chabane and his two protectors - Sgt Lesiba Sekele and Sgt Lawrence Lentsoane – passed away in a car crash on the N1 in Polokwane in the early hours of Sunday.
The car they were travelling in is believed to have collided with a truck, although the details of the accident are still being gathered.
“We are still in deep shock. We extend our condolences to the Chabane family and the families of Sgt Sekele and Sgt Lentsoane. This is a huge loss to the country and a sad day indeed for all of us," the President said on Sunday morning.
Earlier President Zuma described Minister Chabane as “an outstanding cadre of our liberation struggle and a competent, accomplished and dependable member of my Cabinet”.
