Pretoria – The Mpumalanga Executive Council has joined the rest of South Africa in sending condolences to the family of the late Public Service and Administration Minister Collins Chabane.
Mpumalanga Premier David Mabuza chaired a special executive meeting to approve the budget proposal to be tabled on Tuesday. The meeting observed a moment of silence to pay tribute to Minister Chabane.
Premier Mabuza said the country has lost “a deep thinker and an individual who was always peaceful”.
Minister Chabane and his two protectors -- Sergeants Lesiba Sekele and Lawrence Lentsoane -- died in a car accident near Polokwane in the early hours of Sunday.
“We have lost a very good cadre. He was a very humble person. It is unbelievable that he is gone,” the Premier said.
The provincial executive council also sent its condolences to the families of Sekele and Lentsoane.
“On behalf of the government and people of Mpumalanga, we wish to convey our sincere condolences to the President, the Chabane family as well as the families of the protectors who died with him,” said Premier Mabuza.
The late Minister will given a special funeral service.
