Pretoria - An official memorial service will be held today in Vryburg, North West, in honour of struggle stalwart Ruth Mompati.
North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo is expected to deliver a keynote address at the memorial service.
The 89-year-old Mompati died on 12 May, in Cape Town, at a Military Hospital.
Many have described Mama Ruth, as she was affectionately known, as a humble, disciplined and dedicated champion of the people.
She was one of the central figures in organising the historic 9th August 1956 march by over 20 000 women of all races to Pretoria.
Mama Ruth will be laid to rest on Saturday following a special official funeral, where President Jacob Zuma will deliver the eulogy. - SAnews.gov.za
