Pretoria - Cabinet has approved proposals from the Department of Performance Monitoring and Evaluation for a Twenty Year Review.
"The review will be broad, including progress towards building a democratic, non-racial and non-sexist South Africa and progress with socio-economic development, as well the performance of government programmes," said Minister in the Presidency for Performance Monitoring and Evaluation Collins Chabane.
During a post-Cabinet media briefing in Pretoria on Friday, Chabane said the review would build on existing research, including that done for the National Development Plan.
The process of producing the review will be overseen by an Inter-ministerial Committee led by Chabane.
A reference group of prominent academics will be established to ensure that the review is rigorous.
The review is due to be completed by the end of 2013.
