Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has received various reports on investigations conducted by the Special Investigating Unit (SIU), says the Presidency.
The SIU investigated the cases following President Zuma’s directive to look into various allegations, including, amongst others, fraud, corruption and maladministration in government departments and agencies.
Among the reports received is the Eastern Cape Department of Education investigation into fraud, corruption and mal-administration.
“The SIU report contains recommendations which will require further action by the relevant Executive Authority. The President has written to the Premier of Eastern Cape province to oversee the implementation of the SIU’s recommendations,” the Presidency said on Monday.
Another is the report into the Eastern Cape Department of Roads and Transport. The investigation has looked at, among other things, unlawful appropriation or expenditure of public money or property and serious maladministration.
A report into the maladministration, irregularities relating to procurement process, unauthorised, irregular or fruitless and wasteful expenditure at the State Information Technology Agency was also received.
The SIU report contains recommendations which will require further action by the Board of SETA and the Minister of Public Service and Administration, said the Presidency
In this regard, President Zuma has written to Minister of Public Service and Administration to oversee the implementation of the SIU’s recommendations and to report to the President the progress made in this regard.
The President has also written to the same Minister regarding the SIU report containing recommendations related to maladministration, irregularities relating to the procurement process, unauthorised, irregular or fruitless and wasteful expenditure in connection with the affairs of the Public Service Sector Education and Training Authority (PSETA).
The Presidency said President Zuma has written to the Minister to oversee the implementation of the SIU’s recommendations and to report on the progress made in this regard.
During February and August 2014, the President issued a proclamation mandating the SIU to investigate, amongst others, irregularities and serious maladministration in connection with the affairs of the South African Post Office (SAPO).
“The SIU report contains recommendations which will require further action by the Board of SAPO, SAPO Executive Management and by the Minister of Telecommunications and Postal Services. The President has written to the Minister of Telecommunications and Postal Services to oversee the implementation of the SIU’s recommendations and to report to the President the progress made in this regard,” said the Presidency. –SAnews.gov.za
