Pretoria - Gauteng Premier David Makhura says the decision to reshuffle his Cabinet will boost capacity to deliver and strengthen implementation of its programmes that will transform, modernise and reindustrialise the province.
In a bold move, the Premier made three changes to his Cabinet, announced at a special media briefing on Tuesday evening.
Former Gauteng Premier Paul Mashatile joins the team and takes over the reins at the Department of Human Settlements.
Nandi Mayathula Khoza will return to the Social Development portfolio which was held by Molebatsi Bopape, who has left the Cabinet.
Mayathula Khoza served as the MEC for Social Development. During her tenure, she introduced important programmes focusing on senior citizens and township cooperatives.
Jacob Mamobolo will now move to the Department of Infrastructure Development.
Premier Makhura said: “Over the next two days, Mashatile will resign as a member of Parliament to take up his position in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature.”
The new Cabinet will also meet in the coming weeks to reflect on the economy and to discuss ways in which to turn around the economy.
“I recently met with various experts where we discussed ways of revitalising the economy. The inputs received will be considered to discuss interventions needed to grow Gauteng’s economy,” said Premier Makhura. - SAnews.gov.za
