Pretoria - Over 450 youth from Gauteng will today gather in KwaThema in Springs for the annual youth summit, where social development and the youth's involvement in improving and taking ownership of their health will come under the spotlight.
The one-day summit will also focus on issues including teenage pregnancy, suicide, substance abuse, HIV and Aids, gender based violence, youth nutrition and physical activity.
Held under the theme 'Be alert, don't add to your load', the summit's main aim is to address key issues affecting youth. It also seeks to strengthen partnerships between the department and youth groups, to encourage youth to participate in health related issues and celebrate cultural diversity.
During the day, health workers will be offering health screenings, where the youth can check their status in relation to high blood pressure, diabetes and HIV.
Gauteng Health and Social Development MEC, Ntombi Mekgwe, is expected to address the youth today.
